University of Missouri curators approve new children’s hospital

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The University of Missouri System Board of Curators approved a proposal to build a new children's hospital Thursday morning.

Plans for the new hospital were announced last week.

An advisory committee to the board approved construction plans for the facility at its meeting on Nov. 11.

The proposal would build the seven-story facility at the corner of Hitt and Lake Streets where the MU Hospital campus sits. The hospital would have 142 patient beds plus ICU, children's cancer and labor and delivery units.

Documents say $232 million has been budgeted for the project that is projected to be finished in 2024.

The university will transition the current Women's and Children's Hospital to the new facility. It's unclear when plans will be made on what will happen to the old hospital.
