Columbia police arrest man in connection with weekend shooting on Orchard Lane

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police officers arrested a man Thursday in connection with a weekend shooting in the northeast part of the city.

Charles Kelly, 32, of Columbia, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and other crimes, according to a release from the police department.

Officers received reports of the shooting in the 4600 block of Orchard Lane on Sunday. Victims said it happened around 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

Victims told police they were driving down Orchard and alleged Kelly shot at their vehicle. According to court documents, Kelly allegedly opened fire on the victims' car with a rifle.

According to court documents, Columbia police found two bullet holes in the rear of the vehicle.

Police did not say if anyone was hurt in the shooting.

Police arrested Kelly Thursday -- Boone County Sheriff's Department records say he was booked into the jail at 10:46 p.m. Online court records say he is being held without bond.

Kelly is charged with two counts of 1st-degree domestic assault and one count of armed criminal action according to online court records.
