COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A string of thefts and car break-ins were reported in South Columbia over the weekend.
Several people near the Bearfield Meadows area reported having their vehicles broken into overnight, with items taken ranging from phone chargers to garage door openers.
The six-hour police dispatch log from Friday through Monday shows the Bearfield Meadows area had five reports, including recovered property and larceny in the 2200 Block of Windstone Drive, a burglary in the 2100 Block of Hollow Ridge Court, larceny in the 4500 Block of Orrine Street and recovered property on Orrine Court.
ABC 17 News reached out to CPD for comment but was told they have no information.
After speaking to dozens of residents in the area, people say the thieves aren’t just taking valuables—some are targeting garage door openers. One woman ABC 17 News spoke with says two of her garage door openers were stolen and have yet to be recovered.
Another man on Windstone Drive says he woke up to find his garage door open, with the opener missing from his car. fortunately, nothing of value was taken from inside. The man says that police later found a handful of garage door openers lying in a front yard further down the street.
Another resident on Orrine Court reported that someone broke into his car, rifled through his locked glove box and trunk, and made off with minor items—like phone chargers.
