Car seen with gunshot damage in east Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Law enforcement officers investigated damage to a car in east Columbia on Tuesday night.
An ABC 17 News photographer saw the car on South Sonora Drive near South Victoria Avenue with apparent gunshot damage. The photographer also saw four evidence markers on the ground.
A window on the car appeared to be broken with glass laying on the ground around it.
Six Boone County deputies and a Columbia police officer were on the scene.
The scene cleared before 8:15 p.m.
A neighbor -- who wished to remain anonymous out of fear for their safety -- told ABC 17 that they heard about six shots. They say a car pulled into a driveway next to the car that got hit and quickly reversed course after the car was shot.
Capt. Brian Leer, of the Boone County Sheriff's Office, wrote in a Wednesday email that deputies found shell casings and saw damage on the car, but no injuries were reported.
"At this time, we believe there was possibly a verbal altercation between a motorist and pedestrian that led to shots being fired. The incident is still under investigation and no arrests have been made," Leer wrote.
