La Plata man sentenced to 15 life sentences for child sex crimes
MACON COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A La Plata man was sentenced on Wednesday to 15 consecutive life sentences for more than a dozen child sex crimes.
Howard Moots, 35, was found guilty by a Macon County jury on Oct. 20 for 15 counts of statutory sodomy and one count of second-degree child molestation. Moots had sexually assaulted three children from 2018-21, according to a press release from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.
The Attorney General’s Office had assisted the Macon County prosecutor in the case.
Moots’ attorney filed an appeal for a new trial in November, but it was denied on Wednesday.
