Jefferson City woman accused of stealing more than $37,000 in welfare benefits

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City woman was charged on Monday with stealing $37,420.87 in public-assistance benefits.

Abisoye Jones, 39, was charged with stealing $25,000 or more and unlawfully receiving more than $750 in public assistance benefits. A criminal summons was issued on Monday and an initial court appearance is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Cole County Circuit Court.

According to the probable cause statement, from February 2020-January 2023, Jones received $28,709 in benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, as well as  $5,587.99 from MO HealthNet and $3,123.88 in child care benefits.

The statement says Jones omitted her spouse as a member of her household and did not declare his income.
