Another MU hazing suspect arrested, released on bond

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A second man accused of hazing a former University of Missouri student left disabled by alcohol poisoning has been arrested and released on bond.

Ryan P. Delanty was arrested Monday by Boone County court marshals on a felony hazing charge and a misdemeanor charge of giving alcohol to a minor, according to online court records. He was released on a $50,000 bond.

Another man charged with hazing, Thomas Shultz, was arrested and posted bond Friday. Shultz was also indicted on a felony count of tampering with evidence, according to court records. Shultz's indictment says he kept relevant text messages from investigators.

Delanty was the "pledge dad" of Danny Santulli, who was hospitalized in October with alcohol poisoning after a Phi Gamma Delta fraternity event, a lawyer representing Santulli's family in a civil case has said. The family has reached settlements with several members of the fraternity.

The attorney, David Bianchi, has said Santulli was left blind and unable to walk or communicate after the poisoning. Santulli was made to drink a bottle of vodka at the fraternity event and was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle after he became unresponsive, the family says.

The fraternity chapter's recognition has been withdrawn and several students have been disciplined by MU.

Another man, Alec Wetzler, is also charged with providing alcohol to a minor.

Delanty's next hearing is set for Aug. 15.
