COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police have arrested a woman charged last week in a September crash that caused a moped rider to lose their leg.

Hannah Jawad, 22, was charged last week with second-degree assault, armed criminal action and careless and imprudent driving in the Sept. 2, 2020 crash on Green Meadows Road. Court documents say Jawad told police she was driving a friend who was having a drug overdose to the hospital when the crash occurred.

Police allege Jawad was driving in the wrong lane when she hit the moped head-on and dragged the driver for 140 feet. The victim survived but had a leg amputated, court documents say.

Jawad didn't have a valid license and police say she told them she had never driven before.

She was in the Boone County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond Wednesday. An initial court appearance
