Callaway County deputies arrested a Jefferson City man last week on suspicion of forcing his way into a residence and shooting a man who lived there in 2018.

Danial D. Lowe, 29, was charged last week with first-degree assault, burglary and armed criminal action.

Lowe is charged in connection with an Aug. 3, 2018 shooting at the Evergreen Condos in Holts Summit. Investigators believe that night Lowe forced his way into an apartment with a gun after a child opened the door.

A man inside the apartment struggled with Lowe over the gun and was shot in the groin, according to a probable cause statement. The victim was able to get the gun away from Lowe after the shooting, the statement says.

The case apparently went cold until the victim told an investigator in March that Lowe might be the shooter, the statement says. The victim and the child who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting each picked Lowe out of a photo lineup, according to the probable cause statement.

A hearing about Lowe's legal representation and bond is scheduled for Friday, according to online court records.
