Sheriff: Callaway County murder under investigation

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating a murder.

Deputies were sent to the 8000 block of Broadway in Guthrie early Friday afternoon for a "suspicious incident," the sheriff's office said in a news release. Deputies found a person dead and "foul play was evident," Sheriff Clay Chism said in the release.

Chism said deputies initially responded to a domestic incident.

"The initial call was a possible domestic situation had occurred at that residence. So, yes, we did initially respond to the residence believing it was some type of domestic disturbance or some disturbance had already occurred," he said.

Chism said the sole suspect in the killing is in custody and there is no threat to the public in the area.

"Within a very short amount of time, a suspect had been identified and that suspect was taken into custody," he said.

He said the custody was still in custody Friday night pending formal charges, which he expected late Friday night or Saturday morning.

The sheriff's office did not release other details. Chism said he would release more details late Friday or early Saturday.
