‘Multiple’ firefighters treated for ‘heat-related illness’ at Providence Road McDonald’s scene

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Multiple firefighters were treated for heat-related illness on Tuesday after they responded to a fire at the new McDonald’s at 200 South Providence Road, Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer told an ABC 17 News reporter on Tuesday afternoon.

The road was shut down between and Elm and Locust streets as first responders worked the area. Smoke was seen coming from the roof of the building when ABC 17 News arrived at 4:14 p.m.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw 10 firetrucks on the scene and at least three ladders were placed next to the building. Four firefighters were on the roof when ABC 17 News first arrived.

The fire at the building went from the main floor into the attic, Schaeffer said. No one who was in the building when the fire started was injured, Schaeffer said.

A cause has not been identified and Schaeffer said it’s too early to know if the fire was related to recent construction. The business is currently closed, but it is not a total loss. A day or time for reopening was not known.
