COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police say a Columbia man was killed Monday night when his moped hit an SUV while going the wrong way.

The Columbia Police Department on Tuesday identified Terry L. Walker, 64, as the man killed in the crash that happened around 9 p.m. Monday on Range Line Street north of Blue Ridge Road. Walker was riding his Yada moped south in the northbound lanes when it collided with a Ford Escape, CPD says in a news release.

Walker was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Escape driver suffered moderate injuries.

Witnesses saw two passengers running from the Escape after the crash, according to the release.

The crash temporarily shut down the northbound lanes of Range Line Street.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
