Boil-water advisory issued for southwest Columbia neighborhoods

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A handful of southwest Columbia neighborhoods were under a boil-water advisory Tuesday morning after a main broke.

The break happened near Vawter School Road and Scott Boulevard, Columbia Water and Light said in a news release. Affected water users were notified by a phone call, the release says.

The affected subdivisions are Thornbrook, Wyndham Ridge, Creek's Edge, Bradbury Estates and part of Copperstone.

Pressure data monitors alerted the utility to a pressure drop in the area, which requires an advisory. The problem was traced back to a 16-inch water main and a crew was at the site making repairs Tuesday morning, Water and Light said.

The advisory will expire at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Those under the advisory should boil water for 3 minutes before cooking or drinking; not consume ice from an ice maker; disinfect dishes and food contact surfaces by immersing them for a minute in clean tap water with a teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
