COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Schnucks Markets, Inc., said Tuesday that it plans to open a third Columbia store in the spring.

The company will build the store on the southwest corner of Clark Lane and St. Charles Road in northeast Columbia, Schnucks said in a news release. Construction is pending property acquisition, the company said.

The store, which will be leased from a landlord, will be 48,000 square feet and employ about 80 people. Schnucks said.

Construction is planned for the fall.

Schnucks operates a supermarket on Forum Boulevard as well as a store under the company's new EatWell brand on Providence Road. The EatWell store, which focuses on natural food, opened in June at the old Lucky's Market location.

The new northeast Columbia store will "include a heavy focus on fresh departments such as produce, meat, seafood and bakery," according to the news release.

Schnucks said its two Columbia stores that are already operating employ 183 workers combined. A Schnucks in Jefferson City employs 82 people.
