Columbia man hurt in rollover crash that stopped traffic on Route WW

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man suffered moderate injuries when his SUV rolled over on Wednesday morning on Route WW east of the city.

The 36-year-old man was not wearing a seat belt when his 1997 Chevrolet Blazer went off the left side of Route WW after he fell asleep near Cedar Grove Boulevard, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. The SUV went off the left side of the road and the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the centerline, then go off the right side of the road and overturn.

The man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital.

Crews were called to the scene around 8 a.m.

An ABC 17 News videographer on scene saw traffic being directed by the Boone County Sheriff's Department into one lane as crews worked to clean up the crash. A truck was lying on its side with the top of the cab smashed and the front windshield destroyed.

Around half a dozen Boone County Fire Protection District vehicles were on scene, along with one Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper.

Emergency crews cleared the scene right before 9 a.m.
