Jefferson City man killed in Highway 63 crash in Boone County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A crash that closed down a lane of Highway 63 in southern Boone County on Thursday killed a Jefferson City man.

Mark Locke, 50, died after his Chevrolet Traverse pulled into the path of another vehicle while Locke was crossing Highway 63 at South Westbrook Drive, near the Eagle Knoll Golf Course. The force of the collision hit his driver's side door.

The driver of the compact SUV that hit Locke's vehicle, Nancy Beckman, 65, of Hollister, Missouri, suffered minor injuries. Her passenger, Mary Arnold, 63, also of Hollister, had moderate injuries. Both women were taken by ambulance to University Hospital.

Locke was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. It wasn't clear if he was wearing a seat belt.

The closed northbound lane of Highway 63 was reopened at about 2 p.m.
