A Macon man who pleaded guilty last year to involuntary manslaughter in a fatal 2024 crash that occurred in southern Columbia was sentenced to partake in a Department of Corrections program.

Ty Frey pleaded guilty in October to first-degree involuntary manslaughter, misdemeanor reckless driving and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced to a 120-day program and can be released then if he successfully completes it. If he completes the program, he would be put on probation.

According to previous reporting, Killian Walker, 18, of Macon, was killed when the car he was in crashed around 2 a.m. Oct. 4, 2024, in the 800 block of West Old Plank Road. Frey, who was driving, and two other passengers suffered minor injuries.

Court documents state that police found an empty bottle of Hennessy in the car. Police said a breath test showed Frey's blood alcohol was 0.07, but he was not of legal drinking age at the time of the crash.
