Weather Alert Day: Light snow could bring road impacts between Thursday night and Friday morning
The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for the potential of light snow that could bring road impacts between late Thursday night and Friday morning.
Much of the ABC 17 News viewing area is under a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather service, pointing toward dangerous road conditions for the Friday morning commute.
Low pressure to our south will send precipitation across the Mid-South for the end of the week into the weekend, and we'll be on the northern extent of that system. With frigid temperatures that have been in place the last several days, any snow that accumulates will stick to frozen roads and could create slick conditions.
Snow showers will likely start to the southwest around sunset on Thursday night, spreading northeast overnight into Friday morning.
Southern and southeast Missouri will see the most snowfall, while points north of I-70 will see less with this system.
Areas along and north of I-70 could see a dusting to 1", while locations in between Highway 50 and I-70 will see 1-2." If you're near the Lake of the Ozarks or I-44, those totals could range between 2-4."
Travel will likely be impacted through early afternoon Friday, but temperatures will be near 30 degrees, making salt treatment and snow removal a bit easier than the last several days.
