Missouri Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe wins Republican nomination for governorship

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri voters have chosen Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe to be the Republican nominee for governor. Kehoe beat Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and state Sen. Bill Eigel to win the state’s primary Tuesday. Kehoe’s prolific fundraising helped him overcome rival Ashcroft’s advantage in name recognition. He is also backed by current Gov. Mike Parson, who is barred from seeking reelection because of term limits. Parson appointed Kehoe to be lieutenant governor in 2018 during a leadership reshuffling. Outcomes of the state’s Tuesday primaries are hugely influential as Republicans have a significant advantage in the GOP-dominated state.
