Safety and security top priority for Boone County Fair

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Hundreds will head to Boone County Wednesday as the county fair heads into its second night, and organizers say safety and security is on everyone's minds.

Jeff Cook, president of the fair, said the rides passed all inspections on Tuesday.

"The Fire Marshal and everyone was here yesterday and they do a thorough inspection of all the rides and how they're set up and how they're hooked up," Cook said.

ABC 17 News got ahold of the Boone County Fair's 2022 inspection documents and investigated the safety and security of the event. Out of all 15 rides documents say they are good to go. A few of the rides had issues when inspected, but were corrected on site before the fairs start.

Inspectors noted a couple of issues with the fence on the Cliff Hanger. The inspector says staff fixed the ring issues that day. Staff also fixed an issue with sharp edges of the steps sticking out on the Fun Slide.

"This company we've used for several years and we never have any trouble out of them," Cook said.

Law enforcement and EMS will also be alert and on stand-by, and for the heat, the fair has a cooling station.
