Phelps County Sheriff investigating apparent murder-suicide

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A couple is dead after an apparent murder suicide, according to the Phelps County Sheriff.

According to a Facebook post from the department, deputies were sent to the 11000 block of County Road 3160 around 7:30 Saturday Morning after a family friend found the 66-year-old woman dead in her home.

After investigating, it is believed 73-year-old husband killed her before taking his own life.

Sheriff Michael Kirn said in a statement, "At this time, there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. There is no threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing, with autopsies expected next week.”

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on scene by The Rolla Rural Fire Department and Phelps County Coroner Ernie Coverdell.
