Callaway County continues to seek a mass vaccination clinic
FULTON, MO (KMIZ)
The Callaway County Health Department continues to seek to host a mass vaccination clinic with the Missouri National Guard, as it struggles with vaccine supply.
As of Saturday, Callaway County has administered 10,879 doses of the coronavirus vaccine, of that 4,005 residents have received both doses of the vaccine. Over 15% of Callaway County's residents have received the vaccine, according to the state's COVID-19 vaccine dashboard.
Mayor Lowe Cannell of Fulton says the health department has been struggling to get residents vaccinated as it's been dealing with a limited supply. Cannell said many of their residents have had to travel to other counties for mass vaccination clinics in order to receive a shot.
Callaway County has been seeking to host a mass vaccination clinic in partnership with the Missouri National Guard in order to get residents vaccinated. Mayor Cannell said with a city like Fulton being more rural and remote it is difficult for some of the population to travel to clinics in other areas. A mass vaccination clinic in Fulton would allow for many who have been waiting to finally receive a vaccine or even those who aren't able to travel.
"I know the Callaway County Health Department has been working towards that and I think they've got something in the works. It just means better accessibility for these remote citizens," said Mayor Cannell.
As the Callaway County Health Department continues to work with the state on hosting a mass vaccination clinic, other surrounding counties are moving forward with clinic plans.
Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services has partnered with the National Guard for a mass vaccination clinic scheduled for March 12 at the Columbia Sports Fieldhouse. The event will last from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 2,300 doses of the Pfizer vaccine are planned to be administered during the event. Registration is required through the state's vaccine navigator site.
The Cole County Health Department also plans to host a mass vaccination clinic with the prioritization of Cole County school staff members. The Missouri National Guard has partnered with the health department to administer 2,300 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The clinic is scheduled for March 19 at The Linc in Jefferson City.
Cole County school staff members will receive the first doses of vaccines available at the clinic, as the health department wants to prioritize educators. Leftover doses will be given to other registered eligible residents. Officials say you must be registered through the state's vaccine navigator site in order to receive a vaccine.
As of Saturday, the state has administered 1,492,499 doses of the vaccine; of that 514,281 Missourians have received complete vaccination.
