Driver dies after hitting deer and being ejected from vehicle

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Harrisburg man died Friday after he hit a deer and was ejected from his vehicle.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, 54-year-old Noel R Hertzing was driving westbound on Highway 124, east of Hopper Road around 6:30 p.m.

That's when Hertzing hit a deer causing the vehicle to slide onto its left side. Hertzing was then ejected and hit by an oncoming driver who was traveling eastbound on Highway 124.

Hertzing was pronounced dead shortly after.

This is MSHP Troop F's 6th fatality of October and 66th for the year.

Emergency crews have re-opened the highway north of Columbia.
