SATURDAY UPDATES: Boone County sees record increase in COVID-19 cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE 5:35 P.M.: The Cole County Health Department reported new cases of the virus Saturday.

The County has had a total of 134 cases of COVID-19.

The department reported 43 active cases of the virus Saturday, an increase from 38 active cases of Friday.

UPDATE 5:00 P.M.: The Columbia/Boone County Health Department reported a record increase of 56 new COVID-19 cases Saturday. The total number of cases reported in Boone County is 726.

There are more than 300 active cases of the virus for the first time in the county. The health department reported 315 active cases of the virus Saturday.

The five-day average of new cases increased to 42.8 from 34.6 on Friday.

ORIGINAL: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 27,133 cases of COVID-19 Saturday. Saturday's increase is equal to 472 new cases.

The department reported an increase of only 420 new cases on July 6.

There were 1,069 deaths reported on Saturday, an increase of five since Friday.

The department reported 883 hospitalizations related to the virus on Saturday. That is near the peak number of hospitalizations in the state from May with 984.

Hospitalizations in June remained around 600.
