Stormtrack Chief Meteorologist Sharon Ray says goodbye

ABC 17 Stormtrack Chief Meteorologist Sharon Ray is saying goodbye to mid-Missouri.

After 16 years at ABC 17 Ray is going back to the place where her career started, Corpus Christi, Texas, to become the new chief meteorologist at CBS affiliate KZTV.

“The decision to hire her remains among my best decisions in my 24 years here at the station,” Curtis Varns, general manager at The Networks of Mid-Missouri, wrote in a message to viewers posted on the ABC 17 News Facebook page.

Despite her public role, Ray was no attention hog, shunning the spotlight for the most part, Varns wrote.

“She came to embody ABC 17 News and we are better because of her. We hate to see her go but are grateful for the time we spent with her,” Varns wrote. “Good luck, Sharon, and thank you.”

Ray wrote a personal note to her viewers that she posted to her Facebook page.

“Thank you for letting me into your homes every night and for the kind words you have sent over the years. I am fortunate to have lived and worked in this wonderful area for nearly 16 years and at such a good news station with fabulous co-workers. I am grateful for every minute I have spent here,” Ray wrote.
