Escaped Missouri fugitive leads Ohio authorities on chase

Ohio authorities say their officers were engaged in a car chase Tuesday morning involving Missouri fugitive Brian Adkison.

Adkison, 23, escaped from the Caldwell County Jail on Aug. 10 and has been on the run ever since. He is wanted on charges in several Missouri counties and for the rape and kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend, a University of Missouri student.

Westlake, Ohio police confirmed to ABC 17 News that an officer tried to question a man sleeping in a pickup truck around 4:30 a.m. when the man drove off and started to lead police on a pursuit. Westlake is just a few minutes west of Cleveland.

Just 15 minutes later, officers from North Ridgeville Police Department were able to deflate one of Adkison’s tires using stop-sticks. His truck became disabled and Adkison then ran away from police.

Numerous law enforcement agencies and K-9 units began a search for Adkison, but were not able to find him after several hours.

Police say the truck’s license plate was stolen from South Strabane Township, Penn., but the truck itself was stolen from Weirton, West Virginia.

Ohio authorities say Adkison is 6 feet tall, 165 pounds, with short light brown hair, brown eyes and a scruffy beard. He was last seen wearing black shorts and a light-colored t-shirt.

Anyone with information on Adkison’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately. Authorities say there is nothing to indicate he is armed, but could still be dangerous.
