Mid-Missouri counties to get millions in federal funding
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Several counties in Mid-Missouri are expected to receive millions of dollars in federal funding to help with COVID-19-related costs.
Missouri's Coronavirus Relief Funding Task Force met Tuesday morning to discuss how much money will be sent to counties across the state. Gov. Mike Parson formed the group on April 10 to make recommendations for the use of the funding under the CARES Act.
State Rep. Kip Kendrick tweeted that the discussion was constructive.
The task force is led by State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick. A document posted to the treasurer's website breaks down how much money each county will get.
Boone County is expected to receive $21.1 million. Cole County is listed to get $9 million and Callaway County is estimated to receive $5.2 million.
The money has to be used for expenses the county made to respond to COVID-19. It cannot be used to make up for lost revenue because of an economic slowdown.
