Tracking triple digit heat index values and a few pop-up storms on Thursday

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the lower 90s. Heat index values between 100-105.

EXTENDED: Upper high pressure is still holding strong to our east, keeping heat and humidity in place through the rest of this week with highs in the low 90s and heat index values between 100-103. We'll see a chance for a few pop-up storms Thursday and Friday as upper level temperatures cool a bit, allowing storms to develop in the peak heating of the day. The most likely region will be across central and southeast Missouri toward late afternoon. A cluster of thunderstorms could potentially move across the region late on Friday night into Saturday morning, perhaps cooling the northern part of Mid-Missouri for early Saturday, leaving some clouds in its wake. Points south will still be hotter than normal and humid with a heat index between 100-103 for the 4th of July festivities. Things are looking clear for fireworks on Saturday night, but a slow moving cold front looks to stall across the region between Sunday and early next week, providing a focus for scattered showers and storms each afternoon through Wednesday before we start to see a more significant shift in the pattern. The jet stream looks to remain to our north for the majority of next week, meaning we can expect highs around 90 each day with heat indexes between 95-98.
