Tracking dangerous heat, nice breeze Tuesday afternoon

THIS AFTERNOON: Hot and humid with sunshine, highs in the lower 90s. Heat index between 100-103. A nice breeze will make it a bit more comfortable to be outdoors in the afternoon.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with lows in the mid-70s.

EXTENDED: Upper high pressure continues to hold this week, but as the surface high moves east into the Ohio Valley, stronger winds pick up and mix the air a bit, allowing dew points to come down a degree or two. The breeze will make it feel more tolerable, but caution still needs to be taken with these temperatures. The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will continue through Saturday as dangerous heat looks to stick around along with dew points in the 70s. Heat index values range between 100-105 through Saturday afternoon. The upper ridge tries to weaken a bit by the end of the week, allowing a few impulses to slide through the upper flow and trigger a few showers and storms each afternoon between Thursday and Saturday. Widespread measurable rain isn't expected, but there might be enough to briefly cool down locations that get under one of these updrafts. We'll see a better shot at scattered rain and storms on Sunday as a cold front slides through, dropping us to the upper 80s heading into early next week.
