Tracking dangerous heat and strong thunderstorms

THIS AFTERNOON: Hot and humid, with a heat index near 100 degrees. An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect for possible severe storms north of I-70 through the afternoon.

TONIGHT: Storms clear out by midnight, and temperatures remain warm in the 70s.

EXTENDED: Severe storms will be possible again on Thursday afternoon, coupled with a dangerous heat index in the upper 90s. Drier weather is forecast for Friday, along with lower humidity and temperatures in the low 80s. More rain and thunderstorm chances are present over the weekend, before we cool into the 70s next week.
