William Woods to establish first marching, pep, concert bands next year
FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)
Sound the horns! William Woods University in Fulton announced in a Thursday press release that it will establish its first marching, pep and concert bands next school year.
The University said it plans to recruit at least 18 members for the band’s first year, and eventually wants to have around 70-80 members. Students can also audition for band scholarships worth up to $5,000, according to the release.
The band will perform as a marching band during the school’s inaugural football season next year before becoming a pep and concert band for the rest of the year, according to the release.
The release states Assistant Professor of Music Alex Kirby is recruiting members for the band.
“It truly is an exciting time for the arts at William Woods,” Kirby said in the release. “So many institutions across the nation are cutting the arts and to see William Woods actively investing in them is exciting to see. With the addition of band coming for Fall 2024 and the revamped choral program for this year, The Woods can provide more students a place to call home and to be a part of something larger than themselves.”
