Hundreds attend vigil honoring MU student who died
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Hundreds of mostly MU students and some family members attended a candlelit vigil Monday to honor Kennedy G. Carter, who passed away Thursday, April 20.
The vigil was held at Tradition's Plaza, just south of Jesse Hall on the University of Missouri's campus. Kennedy's sister, Carley, read Bible verses and Kennedy's obituary. Students in attendance sang songs in Kennedy's honor.
MU spokesman Christian Basi told ABC 17 News on Friday that the University of Missouri Police Department responded to a call Thursday morning for an unresponsive person at The Rise on 9th apartment complex at 915 Locust Street.
Kennedy Carter was declared dead at the scene. She was 19.
The cause of death is still under investigation.
According to Kennedy Carter's obituary, she was a member of Phi Mu sorority, the Student Nursing Association and Fighting Pretty Mizzou. Carter was accepted to the Sinclair School of Nursing.
Carter's funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 567 St. Joseph Lane, Manchester. Her visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Family Center at Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway in Ballwin.
