Future eclipses and how the Salvation Army is recycling eclipse glasses
Many people across Mid-Missouri had the opportunity to walk outside their front doors, or travel a short distance to the southeast to see this years total eclipse. The past total eclipse occurred only a few short years ago back into 2017. Sadly, the next nearby total eclipse will be further into the future.
The next eclipse will be an annular eclipse located far away in South America this October. The next opportunity to see a total eclipse peak will be in 2033 in Alaska. In 2044, North Dakota and Montana will see a passing total eclipse. the next opportunity to have a closer travel for a total eclipse will be in 2025 as the totality path marches its way across the lower 48 states.
The total eclipse in 2045 looks to start in Northern California before making its way southeast towards Oklahoma and Arkansas.
The Salvation Army is taking advantage of the many used solar eclipse sunglasses from yesterday's event and recycling the glasses to be used by countries across the world for their future eclipses such as the annular eclipse passing through portions of South America this upcoming fall.
To donate your undamaged solar eclipse glasses, you can stop by the Columbia, Missouri office located at 1108 W. Ash Street. There you will be directed to the front office which remains open from Monday- Friday from 9am-12pm, and from 1pm-4pm.
