Tracking major winter storm with significant impacts

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy and mild, lows near 40.

TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy, showers likely. Rain changing to freezing rain and eventually to snow before sunrise on Wednesday. Highs in the upper 40s to around 50.

EXTENDED:  Rain moves in tomorrow along a front, but temperatures will make it to the upper 40s to around 50, so nothing frozen is expected until late tomorrow night. Rain transitions to light freezing rain for a short window as cold air spills in from the north. We'll likely see a change from a mix to all snow between 3:00 to 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, with waves of snowfall expected through early Thursday afternoon. Snow could be heavy at times, with storm total accumulation between 8-14". Those high amounts will be isolated, but definitely not out of the question for locations along I-70. There's a higher probability of icy conditions across southern Missouri where freezing rain accumulation is more likely. Winds will also be an issue with gusts up to 25 mph between Tuesday night and most of Wednesday, making visibility an issue on the roads. As snow moves out Thursday, we'll be left with temperatures near 20 with wind chills in the single digits. Our Weather Alert Day continues into Friday morning with a low near zero and wind chills between -5 and -10. We should see improvement on Friday, but could end up extending the temperature WAD into Saturday as we could end up in the upper single digits.
