Tracking a spring like day ahead of our next winter storm

MONDAY:

After a very seasonable Sunday, a stout southerly breeze jumps temperatures into the mid 50's this afternoon. Some midday clouds will try to limit temperatures this afternoon, but highs should still climb into the 50's for many.

TONIGHT:

Temperatures will be warm this evening, in the 40's. Winds stay southerly through the night for most, but an approaching cold front may start to switch winds out of the north by sunrise Tuesday. This front will be the very beginnings of our next run in with winter weather. Showers will develop as this front runs into moisture Tuesday afternoon, where we top out in the upper 40's. Showers will be come widespread Tuesday night, before some see a transition to snow in the north.

EXTENDED:

Wednesday's forecast will be complex, and likely will change still, as we get closer. Wednesday morning, temperatures will continue to fall leading to more widespread snow for portions of Mid-Missouri north of the I-44 corridor. Closer to I-44, temperatures throughout the atmosphere will start to favor more of a wintry mix rather than snow. In this area and south, we will see a chance for sleet and/or freezing rain. These are fine details that are sure to change and be vital to the final forecast, so stay tuned. Most will eventually see a change over to snow by Thursday morning, where snow showers will linger. Overall, we are confident that snow and ice accumulations will be impactful and make travel dangerous this week. Dangerous cold will also set in for the end of the work week. A Weather Alert Day is in effect for Tuesday night through Friday Morning.
