Tracking bitter cold this week, with a slight warmup this weekend

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

Temperatures have been falling all day, into the 20's as I write this just before 11a.m. Expect temperatures to remain steady in the 20's at best, meaning that temperatures may continue to drop into the afternoon. Overcast skies and a stout wind out of the north will keep today feeling blustery. A possibility for flurries exists this afternoon, but no impacts are expected.

TONIGHT

It gets even worse tonight as lows fall into the single digits themselves. That breeze will stick with us, leading to wind chills 10 to 20 below zero.

EXTENDED

Temperatures will only top out in the teens tomorrow, even with a full dose of sunshine. Lows will once again visit the single digits Thursday night, but that breeze will let up a bit more. Wind chills below zero will be possible, but likely not as widespread or extreme. We’ll turn those winds around on Friday and warm up into the upper 20’s. We keep the warming trend going this weekend as highs reach the upper 30’s to low 40’s. We’ll keep the seasonal weather around to start next week before a front moves through Monday afternoon. That will send us back into the 20’s for highs on Tuesday.
