Tracking multiple storm chances ahead of a cool weekend

TODAY: Wednesday is another wet day with scattered showers and storms this morning and again this afternoon. A short lull in rainfall around midday, across the lunch hour, will give many a break and even some sunshine. Then, as a warm front lifts into the region this afternoon and evening, storm chances will return, likely present during the evening commute. An isolated strong storm is possible in this window, but the overall support for severe weather locally will be weak. Most will experience thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall. Highs remain in the 60s today.

TONIGHT: Storms continue into the overnight, with widespread rain lasting into the morning commute time, when an umbrella will likely be handy.

EXTENDED: Scattered Showers and weak storms on Thursday morning will push east. There is potential for this activity to become removed from the main cold front. If this happens, another round of thunderstorms will be possible during the midday hours on Thursday, until the cold front passes. An isolated strong storm can't be ruled out Thursday, but again the overall severe threat is very low. By far, the greatest ingredient list for severe weather comes on Friday, when a warm front lifts north of the region, driving warmth and building instability across the region. We may become uncapped by the heat of the afternoon, allowing for storms to develop in an environment that would support large hail, tornadoes, and damaging wind. The cold front reinforces storm chances Friday night, and leaves us drier by some time Saturday morning. Thursday will be another mild day in the 70s, but 80s return with the severe threat on Friday afternoon. A return to cooler air comes behind the front, leaving highs forecast in the 50s over the weekend before sun and 60s return next week.
