Tracking heavy rain ahead of severe storms tonight

TODAY: Thursday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. Storms that have formed before sunrise have created a flooding threat south of I-70 and along HWY 50. Pay attention to flood alerts this morning as this situation will develop quickly. Flooding from heavy and repetitive rains will be our main concern this morning, until storms exit through late morning. The afternoon will bring a window of dry time, before storms return this evening.

TONIGHT: Current expectations have storms arriving near 7-9 p.m. which will hopefully allow for some to squeeze in outdoor Independence Day activities. Pay close attention to the weather though, as storms developing along a cold front in this time frame near Sedalia, Marshall, and Warsaw will quickly become strong to severe. This line of storms will then spread across the region, arriving near Columbia and Jefferson City in the 9-11 p.m. window, and reach Rolla, Vienna, Hermann, and Montgomery City in the 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. window. Storms will carry potential for damaging winds primarily, but also hail and a possible spin-up tornado.

EXTENDED: Friday will start with clouds lingering early, before clearing to become mostly sunny. Some afternoon clouds are possible, but it will likely remain mostly sunny, with a high in the low 80s, with low humidity as well. Saturday is another pleasant and bright day, with a high in the 80s. Sunday will start dry and sunny with highs reaching mid-80s, before rain chances work in Sunday night. This rain chance lingers into Monday. Active flow keeps spotty rain chances in the forecast through Wednesday.
