Mizzou run-rules Arkansas to even three-game series

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KMIZ)

After scoring just two runs on five hits in game one of its three-game series with No. 19 Arkansas, No. 11 Mizzou Softball posted a stellar afternoon at the dish on Saturday. The Tigers cruised to a 12-3 run-rule win over the Razorbacks to force a rubber match on Sunday afternoon.

Larissa Anderson's crew scored eight unanswered runs to start the game, highlighted by Alex Honnold's fourth home run of the season, a two-RBI double from Maddie Gallagher and an RBI single from Kara Daly.

Laurin Krings tossed three no-hit innings to begin her outing, but Arkansas rallied in the fourth frame. The Razorbacks scored three runs on a two-RBI double from Cylie Halvorson and an RBI triple from Nia Carter to cut their deficit down to 8-3. Krings ended her performance, allowing three runs on three hits in less than four innings of work.

However, Mizzou responded in the fifth inning by recording a four-run frame on an RBI single from Jenna Laird and a bases clearing single from Daly. Then, Marissa McCann retired the side in the fifth inning to seal the win.

Laird, Honnold, Gallagher and Daly all posted multi-RBI performances, and as a team, the Tigers recorded nine hits and six walks.

Up next - Mizzou will be hunting for back-to-back SEC series wins on Sunday, April 7. First pitch for Sunday's rubber match with Arkansas is scheduled for 2 p.m.
