Chiefs offense getting first run at training camp

The Chiefs began their first set of full team workouts ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Kansas City's offense is returning to full strength after a disappointing end to last year's campaign. Patrick Mahomes is coming back from a torn acl, attempting to re-acclimate with his returning teammates, while developing a connection with the new members.
"He look pretty good today," said head coach Andy Reid. "I thought [he looked] strong, You can see the strength in his legs, see how his feet are moving so, I thought it was positive."

While the starting quarterback has been cleared by the team medical staff and was a full participant in the first day of workouts, the coaching staff is still keeping a watchful eye to ensure he doesn't suffer any late setbacks.
"I'm obviously keeping a close eye on him, but I'm not the doctor," said coach Reid. "I'm keeping a close eye and on the small things, technique wise, but he's he's prepared for those things. With his rehab he's really, getting opportunities to push off and whether it's lateral or or straight ahead. Make sure he can escape as needed. He's got good strength through the practices he's been in where he can still bend and throw, and he trusts the leg to drive on it."
Mahomes' wide reciever one, Rashee Rice, is also on his way back from a knee surgery. He was able to put some work in during Wednesday's workouts, but only took part in the first half of the day before returning to the training room for scheduled rehab.
"We had planned to get some work in and then he went up mid practice there and got some rehab done there, but, it was all positive. It was planned and that and we'll gradually ramp them up as we go," said Reid.
One of the newest and perhaps the most highly touted weapon in that Kansas City offense is reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker. The running back got his first run with the Chiefs since OTA's earlier in the summer, and had a productive first day on the turf.
"They want to win. They've won many Super Bowls before. So definitely you see the work ethic that's going on around here," said Walker. "But honestly, I believe I can make a positive impact on anything, you know, whatever they need me to do, that's what I'm gonna do.

"I thought he looked good today," said Reid on his new tail back. "He's working through everything. Smart kid, very diligent. Wants to know everything. And he's talented. And that's kind of a good combination. So it's just a matter of him feeling comfortable with everything."
