SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Tigers are on a tear.

The Mizzou softball team stayed in winning ways, on Tuesday night, with an 8-5 win over Missouri State in midweek action. With the victory, head coach Larissa Anderson and company extended their winning streak to five games, as the group has now won 13 out of their last 15 games.

MU struck first in the in-state rivalry game, as freshman phenom Abby Carr got the ball rolling in second inning. After her leadoff single, the Tigers soon had runners on second and third with one out and their hitters capitalized on the opportunity. Outfielder Kayley Lenger opened up the scoring with an RBI single to left field to get up 2-0 on the Bears. Catcher Stefania Abruscato poured on some more in that same inning with her first triple of the season, which plated two more runs to make it a four-run advantage for the Tigers.

Mizzou kept the good times rolling at the plate in the third inning, as well. The Tigers score four more runs with a Carr two-run homer, followed by another two-run homer off the bat of Tolton alum Madison Uptegrove.

Two four-run frames put Coach Anderson and her team up by eight runs through just three innings.

Meanwhile, Carr was also busy in the circle, on Tuesday night, as she earned the start. The Missouri native managed to hold things down through 4.0 innings of work. In that time, she allowed just one run on five hits, while fanning four Missouri State batters.

However, the Bears did manage to respond, eventually. In the fifth inning, Missouri State cut the deficit in half, plating three runs to make it an 8-4 ball game. The home team added one more in the bottom of the sixth inning, as well, to threaten Mizzou with a three-run game.

But, reliever Courtney Donahue managed to shut the door on the late surge, earning her first career save.

Up next - Mizzou will return home to host No. 20 LSU for a three-game series. The opener is set for Thursday at 6 p.m.
