Mizzou softball breaks out the brooms at Auburn

KMIZ

AUBURN, Ala. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball team took a road trip to Auburn, Alabama in search of a breakthrough SEC weekend. Head coach Larissa Anderson got that and more in a three-game sweep over the other Tigers, in comeback fashion on Sunday afternoon.

The Columbia Tigers trailed 4-2 heading into the top of the fifth, but would not be denied. The bats continued their hot streak, as Rock Bridge alum abby Hay knocked an RBI single to second base to get her team within one. Then, freshman phenom Abby Carr took the lead in the very next at-bat, thanks to a two-run home run.

That dinger marked Carr's sixth of the season, as she ended the day going 2-for-3 with a co-team-best two RBI. Catcher Stefania Abruscato also brought home a couple of runners in the win. Aburscato had quite a weekend, overall, recording her 100th career hit with a home run in Saturday's win.

After Hay and Carr grabbed the lead for head coach Larissa Anderson and company in the fifth, junior Marissa McCann finished it out in the circle. She was the third and final pitcher to take the circle for the Tigers, on Sunday, as she earned the win in her 3.2 innings of work. She allowed just one hit and no runs with one strikeout.

Senior Cierra Harrison got the start in the circle for Mizzou. She went 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits. She was then relieved by Carr, who also allowed a pair of runs to come home.

With the victory, Mizzou is above the .500 mark on the season, moving to 19-18 overall and 4-5 in Southeastern Conference play.

Up next - the Tigers will continue their road swing in a trip to Springfield, Missouri to face Missouri State in midweek action on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
