Dennis Gates picks up third commitment out of the transfer portal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou men's basketball coach Dennis Gates is blazing quite a path on the recruiting trail this offseason. On Wednesday, the Tiger head coach picked up his third commitment from the portal in the past couple of months.

Northern Kentucky grad transfer Marques Warrick committed to the Tigers over Cincinnati, Penn State, Seton Hall and USC. He joined recent commits Tony Perkins and Jacob Crews in joining the MU roster for 2024-25.

Warrick had a successful four years at Northern Kentucky, becoming the school's all-time leading scorer in February. The All-Horizon League First Team selection averaged nearly 20 points per game, the team high, in the 2023-24 campaign. He added on 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, as well.

The guard is familiar with Gates' style of play, too. The Lexington Kentucky native actually went up against Gates' former Cleveland State team on a few occasions in his time in the Horizon League.

Warrick has gotten quite a bit of conference recognition in his four years with the Norse. He was the Freshman of the Year in 2021 and was named to the all-conference team in his sophomore, junior and senior years.

Fans will expect more recruiting for Gates, as he will look to bounce back from the 0-18 finish in conference his team saw in his second season at the helm of Tiger basketball.
