No. 11 Mizzou softball drops series to No. 19 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KMIZ)

The No. 11 Mizzou softball team couldn't get it done in the series finale against the rival No. 19 Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers fell 4-1 at Bogle Park to also drop the series overall, 2-1.

MU actually scored first courtesy of an RBI single off the bat of Alex Honnold in the fifth inning, but she ended up being the lone Tiger to drive in a run off of the Hogs.

Meanwhile, the Arkansas bats provided run support for their pitching staff. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Razorbacks hit back-to-back home runs to gain the 2-1 lead over Mizzou and never looked back.

Those home runs came off of Tiger pitcher Marissa McCann, who actually had a solid start to Sunday's game, locked in a pitcher's duel. Through the first four innings, McCann and Arkansas' Morgan Leinstock combined to allow just five hits. Overall, McCann allowed two runs on four hits over four innings of work, as she was handed the loss to go to 6-2 overall in 2024.

MU ace Laurin Krings entered the game in relief for McCann. After she entered, Arkansas extended the advantage to three runs with another two-run inning. Krings pitched 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.

Freshman Nathalie Touchet closed out the sixth for MU. She recorded the final two outs of the frame and allowed one hit.

Head coach Larissa Anderson and company are now 30-10 overall and 5-7 in conference action.

Up next - Mizzou will head to Des Moines, Iowa to face Drake at Blue Field on Wednesday, April 10. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
