Mizzou’s Dennis Gates picks up a top portal target

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou men's basketball coach Dennis Gates made his first off season addition on Tuesday afternoon, as former UT Martin standout Jacob Crews committed to the Tigers.

The 6-foot-8 wing was one of the top targets to hit the transfer portal, so far. In his junior campaign with Skyhawks, he averaged about eight rebounds and 19 points per game. He also shot better than 40 percent from 3-point range.

Crews began his career at North Florida, but then transferred down to the JUCO level for one year, where earned All-American status to his time at UT Martin. He helped Daytona State College to a Central Conference championship and racked up the the most wins in school history with the program's highest end-of-season ranking, as well.

Crews will join a Mizzou squad that will look to bounce back in the 2024-25 campaign, after an 0-18 finish in SEC action this past season.
