Mizzou outfielder named a preseason All-American

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou center fielder Alex Honnold earned another preseason honor, on Monday, just days after getting a preseason All-SEC nod. The senior was named a preseason All-American by Softball America.

Honnold led the Tigers with a .593 on-base percentage, .779 slugging percentage, .396 batting average, in addition to her 52 runs and three triples in 2023. That breakout season earned her NFCA Second-Team All-American honors. She was also a top-25 finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year.

The Iowa-native tallied 19 multi-hit games, along with 14 home runs as the two-hole hitter during her junior year.

The All-American nod his now Honnold's fourth preseason honor ahead of the 2024 campaign, as she appeared on Softball America's and D1Softball's Preseason Top 100 rankings, in addition to making to the preseason All-SEC team.

Honnold and Mizzou will open up the season on Feb. 9, as the squad will compete in the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. The home slate will kick off on March 8 against Auburn.
