Mizzou football looks forward to more time with offensive coordinator Kirby Moore

ARLINGTON, Texas. (KMIZ)

The No. 9 Mizzou football team made two big moves before closing out the season against Ohio State in the 2023 Cotton Bowl. The program extended both defensive coordinator Blake Baker and offensive coordinator Kirby Moore's contract - a big win for a Tiger team with a lot of momentum.

No details of Moore's extension have been released to the public yet, but he is excited to continue in his time with head coach Eli Drinkwitz.

“I think just feel very positive of where we’re at, where we’re going. Um I think there’s a lot of different moving parts within college football right now and we have a lot of continuity," he said.

In his first season in Columbia, Moore helped the MU offense get a new look. There's more pushing the ball down the field and more scoring. In fact, the Tigers average 10 more points per game than they did one season ago, jumping from 24 to 34 in 2023.

Players said he is, obviously, a talented offensive coordinator and his love for the game shines through in his coaching.

“This is just what he loves. This is his passion," quarterback Brady Cook said. "Dialing up plays and getting an offense to win games is, you know, that’s what he does.”

However, those same players also emphasized the man he is off of the field. Tiger running back Cody Schrader said that, to put it simply, Moore is a genuine person, one that he wishes he could play another season for.

"He's a quiet guy, he doesn't talk much and he's corny, got some corny jokes and stuff like that and I think him being a younger coach, as well, we're able to really build a bond with him, build a relationship with him," Schrader said. "Just the football wizard that he is and the way he just makes stuff so simple."
