No. 9 Mizzou downs Florida on senior night, improves to 9-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou football team captured one last victory at Faurot Field, in thrilling fashion, for its seniors on Saturday night, topping Florida 33-31. With the win, MU improved to 9-2, overall.

The Gators led by one, 31-30, with about 1:30 left in the ball game, however, quarterback Brady Cook and his offense stormed down the field and got kicker Harrison Mevis within field goal range. The "Thicker Kicker," knocked in the game-winning 30-yard field goal to capture the senior night win.

Cook heated up at the end of the game. He completed 58 percent of his passes for 331 yards and one touchdown in the air. He added on a rushing touchdown, as well.

Florida took an early, 7-3, lead in the first quarter, however, Tiger running back Cody Schrader continued his run of dominance. He ran 42 yards for a touchdown to put Mizzou back in front, up 10-7. Schrader finished with 148 yards on 23 carries, along with one touchdown.

Head coach Eli Drinkwitz and company would take a 13-7 lead into halftime, after Mevis drilled at 39-yard field goal just before the break.

In the second half, Florida and Mizzou traded punches. Graham Mertz hit Trevor Etienne for a 37-yard touchdown to open up the third quarter, which put the Gators on top, 14-13. However, Mizzou responded with an eight-play, 75-yard drive which ended in a Cook touchdown run.

The back and forth continued through the half, but Mizzou delivered that final blow.

Offensively, Luther Burden led the way on the receiving corps. He finished the game with the team-high 158 yards. His teammate, Theo Wease Jr. was right behind him with 77 yards on the night, all of those yards coming on one big touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Linebacker Triston Newson led the charge, defensively. He had nine total tackles on the night.

Senior Darius Robinson registered a sack for the seventh-straight week. He finished with five total tackles, two of which were for a loss.

Up next - Mizzou will travel to Fayetteville for a rivalry meeting with Arkansas. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.
