COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Rock Bridge Bruins and Smith-Cotton Tigers are still in search of their first 2023 wins after suffering losses in week one. The two teams will meet Friday in our SportsZone Football Friday game of the week.

Starting year two under head coach Matt Perkins, the Bruins suffered a 13-10 loss to Park Hill South to start the season. Perkins reflected on that game saying he was impressed with the defense and special teams, but his offense needs to get up to speed.

"Too many dropped balls, not very good up front from a physicality stand point on the offensive line," Perkins said.

The offense was led by two different quarterbacks in week one. Harvard commit Sam Kaiser started the game, but his cousin Brady Davidson also saw some snaps. Perkins said this is likely going to be the situation for this Friday.

"We're going to do it until it's known who needs to be on the field more. Right now, they're both playing similar to one another so it doesn't make sense to really worry about that right now, we're just trying to go in each series and go out and go points," Perkins said. "The way we're doing it, if Sam starts the game and he scores, he's going to get the ball again so we're kind of playing make it take it."

Smith-Cotton on the other hand, lost to Moberly 28-7 in week one. It's year two for head coach Josh Gray being at the helm of the Tigers. The group hopes to improve on last year's 2-8 record.

The game will kick off Friday at Rock Bridge at 7 p.m. You can watch the game live on KZOU.
