Aldred announces reelection bid for Boone County Southern District commissioner

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County Southern District Commissioner Justin Aldred announced his intention to run for reelection in 2024 through a press release on Wednesday.

Aldred first won the seat representing southern portions of Boone County – including southern Columbia, Ashland and Hartsburg – in 2020. Aldred, a Democrat, defeated incumbent commissioner Fred Parry – a Republican -- by gaining 52.6% of the vote. He was sworn in on Dec. 31, 2020.

Aldred is the first candidate to announce a run for the position and the only one with an active committee in the race, according to the Missouri Ethics Commission.

He said in the press release that a focus of his campaign is to address preventing crime and homelessness.

A Missouri Ethics Commission report from July 17 shows his campaign has $24,535.52 on hand.

According to his biography on the Commission’s website, Aldred enlisted in the Army and was eventually picked for the Ike Skelton Early Commissioning Program at Wentworth Military Academy. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri, as well as a certificate in in American Constitutional Democracy from the Kinder Institute, the post states.

 His bio also states that he served as the battalion signal officer for the 175th Military Police Battalion in the National Guard.
